Mitch’s Story
Crohn’s & Mental Health, My Story – By Mitch Doell
Mitch Doell is a volunteer soccer coach and multi-discipline athlete. In 2016 he combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his love for soccer and founded Mitch’s Soccer, offering training, coaching and camps. Today, he is excited to launch Mitch’s Soccer 2.0, offering free soccer services for all.
“When I was diagnosed with severe Crohns in June 2018, the possibility of continuing Mitch’s Soccer seemed impossible and caused me even greater depression. I woke up most days wondering if I’d be better off dead”
In July 2018, during 3rd week of my diagnoses and hospital stay my most prevailing thought was;
“I need to get better so I can help others in my position. How can I do that when I, myself feel so lost and sick?”
Since being diagnosed with Crohn’s, discipline and diet have allowed Mitch to improve his physical and mental health in order to continue Mitch’s Soccer. Through the power of positive thoughts and the support of the soccer community, Mitch was able to beat his depression and manage his Crohn’s.
“My family, doctors and friends were amazingly supportive but nothing replaces the comfort I felt when I stepped out of the hospital and back on the field for the first time in July 2018. The players brought a banner and a cake that said “Feel Better Soon Mitch, We Love You!” That was the first time I smiled in months.”
Although it’s not what he once envisioned, 2.0 is more than soccer and awareness, it’s about the power of helping others no matter what circumstances. Mitch is currently living in Montreal, Quebec, where he runs Mitch’s soccer 2.0 and FYM Trading.

After this experience I became desperate to beat my Crohn’s. My business partner, Dan forced me to stop doing any work and focus solely on my health. I started tracking everything in my body & mind journal like it was my job. My research and self knowledge kicked into overdrive and I swallowed some hard pills. For me, this was the single most important tool in beating Crohn’s and my depression.
After my 2nd gospital relase I started a strict elimination diet of my “safe foods” which consisted of beef, eggs, fish, chicken, some veggies, salt & water.
